Fendt 700 Vario Lights: Work Lights, Beacons and LED Upgrades
In this guide
Fendt 700 Vario lights are the road headlamps, the work lights on the VisioPlus cab roof and around the cab, the optional bonnet work lights, the amber beacons and the rear lamps. Which lamps your tractor has depends on its generation (Gen1 from 1998 to Gen7.1 from late 2025) and its options. On a current 724 Vario Gen7, the optional LED package uses 4,000 lumen work lights. All 700 Varios run on 12V.
This guide sits under our Fendt tractor lights guide. It covers the 700 Vario generations, where each lamp sits, the jobs that come up most, and how to choose LED replacements and upgrades. If you have a 724 Vario, it was built from Gen4 (2011) onwards, so the later sections apply to you.
Which 700 Vario Generation Do You Have?
Fendt refers to the 700 Vario by generation, and the generation matters more for lighting than the model number. A 724 Vario has been built in 5 generations, with different cabs and lighting options.
| Generation | Introduced | Models | Key changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gen1 (Favorit 700 Vario) | 1998 | 711, 712, 714, 716 | First 700 Vario; halogen lighting |
| Gen2 | 2003 | 711, 712, 714, 716 | Favorit name dropped, Tractor Management System |
| Gen3 | 2006 | 712, 714, 716, 718 | New engine, 718 added to the range |
| Gen4 | 2011 | Range extended with 720, 722, 724 | New look, curved VisioPlus cab, SCR engine |
| Gen5 (S4) | 2014 | 714 to 724 | New exhaust after-treatment; LED options more common |
| Gen6 | 2019 to 2020 | 714 to 724 | FendtONE operating system |
| Gen7 | 2022 (deliveries from 2023) | 720, 722, 724, 726, 728 | VarioDrive transmission, up to around 300 hp, LED rear lamps with dynamic indicators, optional bonnet work lights |
| Gen7.1 | Late 2025 | 720, 722, 724, 726 (728 continues) | More power on the 720 to 726; lighting layout carried over from Gen7 as far as we can confirm |
The last 2 digits of the model number roughly indicate power, so a 724 is the 240 hp class tractor. Gen6 720, 722 and 724 models stayed on sale for a time alongside the first Gen7 tractors, so a 2022 or 2023 build 724 could be either. Check the generation on the decal or with the serial number.
Where the Lights Sit on a 700 Vario
| Zone | What sits there | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Front | Road headlamps; daytime running lights on Gen7 | Halogen on older tractors, LED available on later ones |
| Bonnet | Optional work lights built into the bonnet on Gen7 | Front linkage and front camera area |
| Cab roof front and rear | Work lights, plus recessed spotlights on Gen7 LED spec | Gen7 cab work lights are crossed to cut shadows |
| Cab sides and mirrors | Side work lamps; marker lights in the mirror housing with comfort mirrors on EU tractors | Width marking and ground lighting |
| Steps | Illuminated steps and “See me Home” light on Gen7 | Safe access in the dark |
| Roof | Amber beacons (LED on Gen7) | Road warning |
| Rear | Tail, brake, indicator and number plate lamps; LED with dynamic indicators on Gen7 | Road legal rear lighting |
| Front loader | Work lights on the loader boom (Fendt loader option) | Bucket and pallet work |
Gen7 LED Package
On the Gen7, LED lighting is an option rather than standard. Fendt quotes 4,000 lumen LED work lights and 3,400 lumen LED recessed spotlights, with reflectors designed for even light without glare. Fendt states the lamps are EMC tested for guidance and radio, salt tested, vibration resistant and resistant to high pressure cleaning. The driver can store 2 lighting settings and recall them from a steering column switch or the terminal.
Earlier Generations
Gen1 to Gen3 tractors typically run halogen road and work lamps. Gen4 to Gen6 tractors were built with halogen or LED work lamps depending on specification and year. Look at the lamps: LED units show rows of small chips behind the lens, halogen lamps have a single bulb in a reflector.
Common Replacement Needs on a 700 Vario
- Damaged cab roof work lamps. The roof lamps on the VisioPlus cab take hits from branches, hedges and shed doors. Broken lenses let water in and the lamp fails.
- Beacon mounts. Beacons on rigid poles break off on low branches and door frames. A flexi mount bends back.
- Halogen work lamps on Gen1 to Gen5 tractors. These are the classic LED upgrade candidates. Halogen bulbs blow under vibration and the lamps run hot.
- Mirror marker lamps. Mirror arms get clipped in gateways, taking the marker lamp with them.
- Rear lamps. Rear clusters get hit when hitching implements and trailers.
LED Upgrade Paths for the 700 Vario and 724
Halogen Tractors (Gen1 to Gen5)
Replace halogen roof work lamps with LED work lights on the existing brackets where the bolt pattern allows, or on new brackets. Use flood beams for the rear and sides, and a spot or combo beam on the front roof for distance. LED lamps draw far less current than halogen, which helps when running a lot of lamps on an older alternator. Our LED work lamps and tractor LED work lights ranges cover 12V flood, spot and combo patterns.
Gen6 and Gen7 Tractors
These tractors manage lighting electronically through the terminal. When a factory lamp breaks, replace it like for like so it keeps working with the stored light settings. Extra lamps should go on their own fused, relay switched circuit, not spliced into factory lamp wiring. Splicing can cause fault messages and complicate dealer diagnosis.
Loader and Implement Lighting
A 700 Vario on loader work benefits from lamps on the loader boom, which Fendt offers on its own loaders, and from front roof lamps aimed low enough to light the bucket at full lift. On wide implements such as cultivators and drills, side and rear roof lamps aimed outwards light the implement ends and markers. Aim each lamp for the job it does rather than pointing every lamp straight ahead.
Protect the Guidance System
Most 700 Varios run guidance. Poorly suppressed LED lamps can interfere with GPS and radio signals. Fendt specifies EMC tested lamps for this reason, and aftermarket lamps should state EMC compliance to ECE R10. Read our guide to LED lights and GPS interference before you buy.
How to Identify Your Exact 700 Vario Model and Year
- Read the bonnet decal. Gen6, Gen7 and Gen7.1 tractors usually show the generation alongside the model number.
- Find the serial plate. The vehicle identification plate gives the serial number. A Fendt dealer can confirm the generation, build year and factory lighting options from it.
- Check the cab and terminal. FendtONE controls point to Gen6 or later. A curved VisioPlus windscreen points to Gen4 or later.
- Look at the rear lamps. LED rear lamps with sweeping (dynamic) indicators point to Gen7.
- Photograph the lamp and plug. Record the lamp shape, bolt pattern and connector before you order.
Buying Tips for Fendt 700 Vario Lights
- Buy by generation, not model number alone. A 724 Vario Gen4 and a 724 Vario Gen7 are very different tractors.
- Do not assume AGCO cross-references. Fendt uses many lamps of its own. Check the part number rather than assuming a Massey Ferguson or Valtra lamp fits.
- Replace in pairs. Matched left and right lamps keep output and colour even.
- Use approved lamps for road functions. Headlamps, indicators and rear lamps used on the public road need the correct E or e mark, and the amber beacon must be working and switched on whenever the tractor is on the road.
- Pick wash-down rated lamps. IP67 minimum, IP69K for tractors that are pressure washed often.
- Use a flexi beacon mount if you keep losing beacons. Browse tractor beacons and see our flexi DIN beacon mounts guide.

Frequently asked questions
What lights does a Fendt 724 Vario have?
A 724 Vario has road headlamps, cab roof work lights front and rear, side lamps, beacons and rear lamps. On the Gen7, options include an LED package with 4,000 lumen work lights and 3,400 lumen recessed spotlights, optional work lights built into the bonnet, and mirror marker lights on EU tractors.
Are Fendt 700 Vario lights 12V?
Yes. The 700 Vario runs a 12V electrical system. Replacement bulbs must be 12V, and LED work lamps rated 12V to 24V work correctly.
Can I fit LED work lights to an older 700 Vario?
Yes. Gen1 to Gen5 tractors with halogen work lamps take LED work lights on existing or new brackets. Wire any added lamps through their own fuse and relay, and choose EMC compliant lamps to protect the guidance system.
How do I tell which generation my 700 Vario is?
Check the bonnet decal, which often shows the generation on later tractors, and look for clues such as FendtONE controls (Gen6 on) or LED rear lamps with dynamic indicators (Gen7). For certainty, give the serial number to a Fendt dealer.
